Is Fur Really Dead ? (Pun Intended LOL)



OK, so since my journey on studying the art of fashion I have been constantly plagued with the question in my mind.... Am I pro-Fur or against Fur ?

It was only recently with the whole FUR trend reviving itself amongst society and the issue with Kelis and PETA that I have thought about it more often..... (If you dont know the whole deal with Kelis and PETA Click Here )
 AGAINST
A few celebrities such as Pamela Anderson, Stella McCartney, Charlize Theron, Pink

Fashion Brands: Banana Republic,DKNY Jeans, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, Victorias Secret

FOR
Celebrities who wear fur : Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Elizabeth Hurley and Kanye West, Madonna, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Mary J. Blige,

Fashion Brands : Burberry, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Prada.


Here are a few facts :

  • Each year, more than 40 million animals are killed for their fur.

  • Fur-bearing animals include foxes, minks, rabbits, beavers and raccoons.

  • To kill animals without damaging their fur, trappers will strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms are gassed, poisoned, electrocuted, or have their necks snapped.

  • Ranch-raised animals live in cages about 2 feet square, with up to four animals per cage.

  • There is no federal law that regulates the killing of animals raised for fur.

  • It can take up to 40 animals to make one fur coat.




    • Now I dont know much about the cons and pros about fur so I wanted to know everyones thoughts on this and if you are PRO Fur or Against Fur

    So leave some comments cos I wanna hear everyones views on this controversial subject......

      Honestly, I think nothing of it. If it looks good, I wear it. If it don't look to good, I don't wear. I've never really went into a deep thought about if I should be against or for wearing the fur...guess I'm neutral on the topic...idk

      I agree with Ms. RavynRae...I wear what looks good, honestly! I don't own a fur, never have I even worn one....but the ones I've seen look good on the people who wear them. I really don't care, to each his own...just look good doin' it =)

      I'm against being that faux fur is cheaper && some types are comparable to the real thing. Plus if you wear faux, no animals will be harmed =)

      i dont like fur or wear real fur,
      i can't go on a rant about how cruel it is bc i eat meat and wear leather too,
      but thats something i dont think i can give up i eat meat, leather is what most good quality shoes are made of so i still do that, but fur is gross and i don't find it necessary. i agree with super star faux fur pretty much looks the same and sometimes feels just as soft.

      Hey Buddy ;)

      There are many sides and opinions. Many people can't believe that I wear fur because I love animals. I do not think there is anything wrong with wearing vintage furs, personally I think it is more "green" to wear vintage and re-use what is already out there instead of using all of the chemicals, energy and money for a new fake fur.

      If I can buy a vintage fur at the thrift store for $20, why would I go buy a nice new fake fur for $100 or more?

      Maybe I should research more, but I really get annoyed when people rant and rave about fur but do not think twice about wearing leather.

      Hmmm iSee..... most people are either neutral or "partly" against it.

      I have been pondering because as someone who wants to create 'magic' in the nearest future, I wanna know where I stand on issues like this.

      I'm a HUGE animal lover so I can't get down with the whole fur thing. BUT I do eat meat so there is some contradiction there. But would I wear it? Absolutely not. faux-fur? Just maybe.

      I think fur is ugly. Fur jackets, vest and things of that nature. I never really thought about the aspect of them having to kill the animals for them to look tht hideous..so Im definitly againt it. If you have to wear it I say go with faux fur as well. Cut out some of that unnnecesary killing of the animals!
